Driving lessons in Halifax

London, Paris, New York and Milan. But mainly Halifax.

Manual and automatic. Nigel Flather, DVSA approved instructor 55123, with over 30 years teaching people to drive around Calderdale, and still enjoying it.

Most people spend about ten seconds on a website before moving on. So, before I lose you, don’t go yet.

Some people (but not you, obviously) go looking for budget priced lessons, which usually leads to budget quality tuition. You can still get proper driving tuition at a sensible price. Ring, text or WhatsApp and I’ll tell you what it costs. It depends where you are and how many you book, so there’s no point me pretending otherwise.

Nigel’s top tips

Free advice, worth every penny

Thirty years of watching people learn to drive, distilled into things you would think went without saying.

  1. 01

Before you drive, don’t have a pint. Try to avoid the pub altogether.

  2. 02

Indicators tell people what you are about to do. They are not a running commentary on what you have just done.

  3. 03

If the sat nav and the road signs disagree, the road signs win. The sat nav has never once had to explain itself in court.

Manual & automatic

Learn in whichever you like

Driving lessons in Halifax in manual or automatic. It is genuinely your call, and worth two minutes of thought before you book.

Automatic driving lessons in Halifax

No clutch and no gears to think about, which in a town built on a hill takes hill starts, stalling and rolling back at the lights out of the equation entirely. Most people find it lets them concentrate on the traffic much sooner.

Manual driving lessons in Halifax

A manual licence lets you drive anything, automatic included, which is worth having if you might end up in a works van or borrowing somebody else’s car. Clutch control on a Calderdale hill is a skill for life, or at least a skill for Halifax.

How lessons work

Manual and automatic

Driving lessons in Halifax in whichever you want to learn. Automatic if you would rather forget the clutch exists; manual if you want a licence that covers everything.

Picked up from your door

Lessons start from home, work, school or college anywhere in Halifax and most of Calderdale. Full hour, or multiples of.

Your instructor

The instructor is the whole thing

His words, near enough: the most important element in the learning-to-drive equation is the instructor. So here are the qualifications, rather than a paragraph about how patient and friendly he is.

  • On the DVSA register of approved driving instructors
  • Diploma holder. A five-module exam, and a lot of midnight oil
  • Diamond Special Test
  • DSA Fleet qualified
  • Instructor Trainer
  • Pass Plus registered
  • DVSA Approved Driving Instructor, number 55123
  • Over 30 years’ experience at the highest level
  • Elementary swimming certificate

What pupils say

Fourteen people who now drive

All of these were left on the Calderdale School of Motoring Facebook page, by name.

“Nigel is an amazing instructor! His tuition is first class and is worth every penny, I'm really glad that I have learnt with him as he is very supportive and has had faith in me when I thought that I couldn't do it. He has had me passed in 5 months and I would recommend him to anyone due to the skills that he teaches are not comparable. Thank you so much for everything.”
Ushna Shaban
“Thanks for getting me through my driving test. Would recommend Nigel to anyone looking to learn, he's a good teacher, uses visual examples to make things easy to understand and is a friendly guy who makes learning enjoyable. Gave me the confidence to pass my test in 3 months with no minor faults, great value for money! Thanks again!”
Ian Potts
“What a fantastic driving instructor! If there was anyone that wasn't meant to drive it was certainly me, thanks to Nigel I passed today! Would recommend him to anyone, very calm, collected and professional! Thanks again Nigel!”
