Automatic driving lessons in Halifax
London, Paris, New York and Milan. But mainly Halifax.
I'm Nigel. Thirty years of teaching people to drive round Calderdale, graded A by the DVSA, and still not bored of it. Automatic only, which in a town this steep is less of a limitation than it sounds.
Nigel’s top tips
Free advice, worth every penny
Thirty years of watching people learn to drive, distilled into things you would think went without saying.
-
01
Before you drive, don’t have a pint. Try to avoid the pub altogether.
-
02
Indicators tell people what you are about to do. They are not a running commentary on what you have just done.
-
03
If the sat nav and the road signs disagree, the road signs win. The sat nav has never once had to explain itself in court.
Most people spend about ten seconds on a website before moving on. So, before I lose you, don’t go yet.
Budget priced lessons usually lead to budget quality tuition, and you can do better than that without paying a fortune. Ring, text or WhatsApp me and I’ll tell you what it costs — it depends where you are and how many you book, so there’s no point me pretending otherwise.
Automatic only
No clutch, no gears, no stalling on a hill. It is all I teach, so it is the thing I have got very good at.
Picked up from your door
I start from your home, work, school or college, anywhere in Halifax and most of Calderdale. Full hour, or multiples of.
Your instructor
The instructor is the whole thing
The most important element in the learning-to-drive equation is the instructor. So rather than tell you how patient and friendly I am, here is the list. Diploma, Diamond Special Test, Fleet qualified, and an instructor trainer, which means I train the people who teach you.
- On the DVSA register of approved driving instructors
- Diploma holder. A five-module exam, and a lot of midnight oil
- Diamond Special Test
- DSA Fleet qualified
- Instructor Trainer
- Pass Plus registered
- DVSA Approved Driving Instructor, number 55123
- Over 30 years’ experience at the highest level
- Elementary swimming certificate

What pupils say
Fourteen people who now drive
All of these were left on the Calderdale School of Motoring Facebook page, by name.
“Nigel is an amazing instructor! His tuition is first class and is worth every penny, I'm really glad that I have learnt with him as he is very supportive and has had faith in me when I thought that I couldn't do it. He has had me passed in 5 months and I would recommend him to anyone due to the skills that he teaches are not comparable. Thank you so much for everything.”
“Thanks for getting me through my driving test. Would recommend Nigel to anyone looking to learn, he's a good teacher, uses visual examples to make things easy to understand and is a friendly guy who makes learning enjoyable. Gave me the confidence to pass my test in 3 months with no minor faults, great value for money! Thanks again!”
“What a fantastic driving instructor! If there was anyone that wasn't meant to drive it was certainly me, thanks to Nigel I passed today! Would recommend him to anyone, very calm, collected and professional! Thanks again Nigel!”
And the certificates to go with them.

Right then. Shall we get you driving?
Ring, text or WhatsApp, whichever you'd actually use. If you're seventeen and would rather chew glass than make a phone call, text is fine.
